Leica M-D
Simplicity
Manual settings for ISO values, apertures and shutter speeds. The essentials - what else to ask for?
"Leica - no other camera manufacturer is dedicated to focusing on 'Das Wesentliche' - the sheer essentials of photography. As a result, Leica has developed the Leica M-D: a camera that delivers photography in the most consistent way. A camera that offers no more and no less than the most important features, and represents a state-of-the-art digital rangefinder Photography in its purest form. Simplicity personified, photographers using the Leica M-D for the first time will instinctively and intuitively know how to use it. With the deliberate omission of anything but the essentials, the Leica M-D provides the greatest freedom to focus on creativity and capturing the decisive moment every time."
Concentration
Like on my Leica M3 you can focuse on photography. The Leica M-D offers no LCD screen. It´s really a joy to use and you forget that you actually shoot a digital camera.
First I mounted my classic Elmar M Mount 2.8/50 and converted the DNG files into black and white. I used Lightroom 4.4 and it took about 1 minute. The Elmar draws beautifully and works really good with the 24MP CMOS sensor.
Very dreamy look, again with the Elmar mounted and very minor adjustments in Lightroom
The next day been sunny and very cold. The camera worked without any issues (minus 14 degrees Celsius). I mounted my Summicron 2/50 rigid (Type II). I love this lens on my M3. It draws very natural colors with a creamy bokeh. Fantastic for black and white work too.
The Center of this Type II Summicron is very sharp at f2, which might surprise some users. I used it wide open with ISO 1600 - 3200 without any problems.
Some more images taken with the classic Elmar 2.8/50 @ ISO 1600.
Thanks to Leica Germany who kindly loan me the M-D (thanks to Mr. Wolf!). It been a pleasure to use this great camera.
